Fan Art Friday - Rick and Morty by Ghotire
Fan Art Friday - Rick and Morty
Happy Friday! So glad this show is coming back!

Created in the Autodesk Sketchbook app on my Samsung Galaxy tablet and tweaked in Photoshop. Took a few days, not sure how many hours.

Enjoy!

Apres le Deluge
Hey all!

I'm very happy to announce that this piece will be featured in an actual gallery show this August! Check out the event page for more deets: goo.gl/cSf6Ws

This is my tribute to Ponyo, and somewhat more loosely to Monet.

Painted in Painter 12 and Photoshop CC, probably 12-ish hours or so. I'll post a process GIF soon!

Hope you like it!

Do you have any advice for drawing landscapes? You are amazingly talented with scenery, and I'd love love love to learn.

That's a big topic and I don't have very organized thoughts about it, but... I would say the most important thing about creating appealing landscapes is composition. So basically just putting all the elements in appealing places, making sure they all have room to breath and that the eye has a good "path" that leads it through the whole picture and eventually back to the focal point(s). Here's a couple video tutorials on the topic by real professionals:

www.youtube.com/playlist?list=…

My general method of creating a landscape is: Overlapping hills receding off into the distance with things growing out of them and then fog or clouds at the back. Insert something wildly different or of a contrasting color for a focal point. Done.

Try to work with as few colors as possible, or just different shades of one color, then fill it with interesting light. If you want to use perspective in your landscape, don't feel obligated to study it before you start using it. Just start experimenting with it; it's mostly intuitive anyway. Make a few little thumbnail sketches to work out your composition before you start your actual piece, to avoid mid-art frustration. Above all, try to create a landscape you would actually want to visit or you might get bored while creating it. Basically... Bob Ross that ish!

That's all I can think of tonight! Thank you!
